Dans la vallée de Ventron, une vallée affluente de celle de la Moselotte, la déprise agricole a été presque totale, si bien que les versants ont été en grande partie reconquis par la forêt.

Les prairies sont cantonnées au fond de vallée et aux basses pentes.

Le lac des Corbeaux est un très bel exemple de lac de cirque glaciaire. Il est situé à 887 m d’altitude à la tête d’une petite vallée affluente de la Moselotte. D’une profondeur de 27 m, il est d’origine naturelle, mais le plan d’eau a été rehaussé par la construction d’un petit barrage.

Depuis le belvédère de Notre Dame de la Paix, on a une vue d’ensemble sur la ville de Cornimont qui s’étale dans une partie plus large de la vallée de la Moselotte à la confluence avec la vallée du ruisseau des Xoulces.

Comme beaucoup de localités des hautes Vosges, Cornimont a connu, à la fin du XIXe s., un grand développement grâce à l’industrie textile dont il reste beaucoup de traces à travers les usines et les cités ouvrières insérées dans le tissu urbain.

La roche de minuit, accessible depuis le col du Brabant offre le meilleur point de vue sur la Bresse dont on peut voir (photo en haut) l’organisation dans le fond de vallée et sur le versant nord de la vallée de Vologne.

Les photos à droite et en bas offrent une vue sur le versant nord avec les contrastes offerts entre les espaces en prairies encore utilisés par l’agriculture, et les espaces en friche, en voie de reconquête ou déjà reconquis par la forêt.
